The Alchemist’s Letter – What Truly Matters?

Alchemy is cool. The Alchemist’s Letter is even cooler. My love for the idea of Alchemy stems from the Anime Fullmetal Alchemist . In that world, Alchemy is a powerful tool, and more like magic than a science. Using transmutation circles and materials, a skilled alchemist can pretty much create anything. The show focuses on the attempt to create life with Alchemy, and how it’s not possible because of the idea of Equivalent Exchange. “In order to obtain or create something, something of equal value must be lost or destroyed.” The two brothers that the show focuses on tried to use Alchemy to bring their mom back from the dead but they fucked up. Limbs and bodies were lost and the rest of the show is them trying to find a way to fix their mistake.

While I was binge watching the show. (Sophomore year in College I think) I was also taking a class in which we were reading Frankenstein. I remember getting into a bunch of debates with my teacher about how Frankenstein was definitely an Alchemist. Fun stuff.

But let’s get to what we’re actually here for. This bad ass short, The Alchemist’s Letter.

The animation in The Alchemist’s Letter speaks for itself. It is very well done and a treat to watch. Sometimes I wish I was good at artistic stuff like this, it would be cool to make videos. Animation is so beyond me though, I’d have no idea where to even start. I have so much respect for people who have the ability to make such amazing things.

A great little video, with an even greater little message. Worth 5 minutes of your time for sure. You watched a 12 minute Vine compilation earlier of nothing but people falling down…I promise this is a better use of your time. 😀

If the Alchemist’s voice sounded familiar to you it’s probably because it was John Hurt!

And remember, love matters most. But Gold is pretty close 😉
